My Story

It’s all about me

Hi y’all, this is Asante. Where do I start….I’m from a super small town in Minnesota where I grew up with my Mom, Dad, and my older brother. I mean 300 people in total type of small. I loved dancing, singing, reading, photography and being with my friends. Flash forward to 2017 I went to the University of Utah where I graduated with both a B.S in Speech Language Pathology and an M.ED in Early Childhood Special Education.

My mom says that she always thought that I was on the spectrum but I never got a formal diagnosis while in high school. As we all know the signs of ADHD and Autism aim young girls are not well researched/known. I was always kind of picky with food, scatterbrained, and jokes never really landed with me. But, I was also incredibly hard working and above all I was a socially driven person. I was in just about every club one can imagine. This transferred to college when I became an RA, a Union Programming Council member, as well as a Summer Conference Coordinator.

College and the lack of structure really kicked me in the ass and that is when I thought maybe I had ADHD, in that process I also was diagnosed with Autism. Now, I am a 24 year old Developmental Interventionist with 2 cats, her own apartment, a brand new car, and whole bunch of ideas. I love photography (still), Pilates, working my way through cookbooks, and FaceTime my mom 3 times a day. That’s not everything about me, but it is some of the good stuff.
